I love the way TwitScoop is integrated into TweetDeck.  At any point during the day, I can glance over to my TweetDeck laptop and see what’s hot.  It’s great!  Now I can do the same from my phone.

The app costs $0.99, but seems pretty solid.  You can’t tweet from it (a rather glaring omission), but that’s not a big deal — there are tons of other apps on the phone from which you can tweet.  If you want an easy way to see what’s hot on Twitter, the new TwitScoop app might be the best way to do it.

This could be the start of something cool. Loopt, the location-based social network, has figured out how to use the iPhone to push your current location to their servers, without the app even running!  It’s like running it in the background, but we all know that Apple doesn’t allow that.

TechCrunch has the details on how they pulled it off:

Loopt co-founders Sam Altman and Alok Deshpande would not disclose the names of any of these partners, noting that the system set up to make this happen is very “complex” and involves a number of players. But at least one of them has to be AT&T, which is, of course, the network the iPhone runs on. Loopt, which seems to be particularly good at carrier relationships, has cut deals with AT&T in the past.

What this means is that these guys have gotten around the iPhone’s limitation by keeping a pipeline open on AT&T’s side that is constantly sending your location data to Loopt. This doesn’t require any app to be running on your iPhone — not even Loopt — and the location data will be sent even when you’re on a call or surfing the web on your iPhone. Most importantly, because there is no app required to do this, it doesn’t drain your battery life, Altman tells us.

The downside is that it’s currently limited to 5,000 users and it’ll cost $3.99/month.  Still, it’s got the potential to be a very cool service so it’s worth giving it a shot.  You can sign up here to test it.

We’ve gone over the details before, and now this great update is available in the app store.

In addition, they’ve snuck in a few last-minute updates.  The two features that weren’t mentioned last week are landscape mode and home screen organizing.  I’m really glad to see the home screen organizing make it in there, as that’s a great feature to have.  Just hold down an icon on the home screen until they all start to shake (like on the iPhone home screen), drag to rearrange, then press the “done” button in the top left corner when you’re finished.  It works great!

Boxcar 2.0 is now waiting in Apple’s submission queue, and the author expects it to be live sometime between September 3 and September 7.  What does boxcar do?

For Twitter, it can send you push notifications of anything you want — @replies, direct message, even for all of your tweets if you want (though that’d get a bit crazy for most people).

The new version also supports Facebook, allowing you to get notifications of all Facebook alerts.  The Facebook 3.0 app won’t even have that, though it’s expected for Facebook 3.1 down the road.

Finally, it also has push notifications for email.  You tell your email account to forward everything to them (for notification purposes only), and it’ll keep you informed.

All in all, this should be a pretty sweet app.  It’s not free, but it’s reasonably cheap ($2.99).  Should be well worth it for most folks.  Look for it to come out in a few weeks.

The new Twitterfon update is out!  This new update fixes a few bugs in the search, posting of pictures, and followers page.

Twitterfon over all is a great application for setting up your Twitter account on the iPhone.  Ability to upload photos AND VIDEOS is awesome.  Have tried other apps and the video feature just doesn’t seem to cut it.  When uploading either, it gives you the option to choose from existing media or shoot video/photo.   You can also add your location via Google Maps to share with your friends.  I always find myself going back to this app when trying to upload a video to my tweets.

Lots more information about the Facebook 3.0 app is coming out.  AppAdvice has posted a variety of features that you’ll find in the new app, such as:

• The new news feed, similar to the news feed on the main Facebook site.
• You can “like” items.
• No push notification, though they’re hoping to release that with 3.1
• Events, and you can even RSVP.  Can’t visit an event’s wall, though.
• Notes, but no note tagging.
• Pages, which you can “fully interact” with
• Create new photo albums
• Upload images to any photo album
• Zoom into photos
• Easier photo tagging
• Profile picture albums
• New home screen.  This sounds cool.  You have nine boxes to play with and add links to — people, pages, etc.  You can create multiple screens of boxes for other people, pages.  However, once you add an item it’s stuck — no moving or deleting it unless you reinstall the app.  Yes, this will be fixed for 3.1.
• Call/text directly from the Friends page.
• Partial messages will be restored if you quit while typing (to take a phone call, for example).
• Upload video from 3GS, but you can’t play any videos on the phone.
• No landscape mode.

Still no word on the exact release date, as that’s in Apple’s hands.  I’d expect it in the next few days, but you never know.
